IAS Mains General Studies Sample Answers

Parliamentary this system of government of chosen by the Indian constitutional Assembly for India.

Now it raises a question whether this system is adequate (Proter) for India’s present condition after five decades of parliamentary system. Unstable governments, minority governments and Alliances have raised burden of frequent elections and thus huge expense are the result. Besides our socio-political setup has been increasingly witnessing a deterioration that the parliament system with all its advantage has failed to check. So many aberrations of our Parliamentary system are responsible for them. Some of them are:

  • Many parties with differences among them in many matters, do not allow to work Parliament properly. So the mushrooming of political parties has resulted in a large scale erosion of Political values owing to growth in electoral malpractices etc.

  • Changing of parties are so common among politicians that it does not allow any ideological or merit based discussion.

  • Regionalism, linguistic differences, caste politics etc. have taken a strong root in the minds of politicians and therefore, national interest is always at stake against their selfish political motives.

  • Undisciplined behavior of the members have failed to maintain the dignity of the Parliament.

  • Elections are decided at the tip of guns, so, criminalization of politics is self evident, which has taken the place of morality and ideology.

The Parliament is composed of the President of India and the houses.
It is bicameral with two houses: the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) and the Lok Sabha (House of the People). The President in his role as head of legislature has full powers to summon and prorogue either house of Parliament or to dissolve Lok Sabha. - Wikipedia
