The constitution of India provides for ‘’equal rights’’ through different provision. Some of them are as follows:

Article 14: To secure equality before law and equal protection of law to which only President and Governors are exception. Equality before law means absence of any special privileges in favour of any person. ‘’Equal protection of law’’ suggests that the same law shall apply to all who are similarly situated.

Article 15: Prohibition of discrimi-nation on grounds of religion, race, sex, case, creed etc. Untouch ability is removed and titles are abolished to make all persons equal.
Some exceptions of this:

Even in the matters of political participation, the constitution has, since its conception, provided universal franchise under Article 326.

  1. Special provisions for women and children.

  2. Article 15 (4) provides for special protections for groups of citizens who are economically and socially depressed.

  3. Article 16: It ensures equality of opportunities in public employment.

  4. Article 17: It ensures abolition of untouchability in any form.

  5. Article 18: It ensures abolition of titles by the state except those related to military and educational spheres.

  6. In Part IV,the Directives also contain that men and women are to be treated equally. Same wages are to be provided for same work.

All the above said provisions in our constitution are aimed to provide equality to all the individuals of India.
