It is set up by the centre for Railways Information System, Rail Rader is a web based train-tracking system. Noted as one of the most accurate and talked about train-tracking web-based application across the world, its mobile version was launched in May 2012.

Some of its distinct and unique factures are as follows:-

1. RailRadar is a live tracker of Indian Railways passenger trains traffic in real time.

2. It is a 24×7 service and the information can be had online or via SMS about the location and schedule of the 9700 odd trains that run a given week.

3. The location of any train, except those in the Konkan railway belt, can now be seen on a map, represented by a colour coded arrow that indicates whether a train is running on time or not.

4. It is a user friendly and easy to use application, wherein by just entering some details in the search box i.e. a train's Name, number or name of the station, the user is presented with the list of the train, and by clicking on the train name, the user can know whether the train has halted at a station, or is approaching one, the timing, the station it has passed through and when.

5. It can also give the exact information whether the train is running an schedule or is late (e.g. for getting the information via SMS, type (Spot- Train number and send the message to 139)

6. Train schedule is represented by different colours such as blue ( on time), yellow (delayed) and red (delayed by more than 15 minutes).

7. It gives almost real time schedule of a train by simply clicking on the map.
