Discussion Topic: SC/ST Act : What Next

The Supreme Court has issued important guidelines on Tuesday, expressing concern over the misuse of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act, according to the court, in such cases, ordered to not be arrested immediately. In addition, the cases under the SC / ST Act have also been granted advance bail. The apex court said that rather than automatic arrest in cases registered under this law, police should investigate within 7 days and then take further action.

Even as four persons were killed today in violent protest against Supreme Court ruling on atrocities against dalits. The chief justice of India declined to hear an argument plea on the ruling to do with the SC/ST prevention of the atrocities act. The centre today file the plea in the top court seeking the restoration of earlier status by which any offence under the SC/ST Act was made a cognizable non-bailable offence.
