India-Russia Defense Ties

India and Russia had been friends for ages, earlier due to cold war realities it was like two nation sharing common threats making them come together. But now with changing ground realities this friendship has realistically evolved as the friends between two equals. In this changing scenario the defense ties that has developed recently between India and Russia already stresses the notion that both are friends for ages. Both are developing supersonic cruise missile called Brahmas (naked as a short form for the two words Brahmaputra and Mos).

It has MACH III capabilities. Everyone knows including an average layman that MIG series of fighter planes have been the back bone of the Indian Air force. Recently India has purchased a fighter carrier submarine called Akula. Fighter planes carrier submarine Admiral Gorshkows is being sold to India. The said carrier to be called INS Vikramaditya Russia had used this for the last two decades and now selling it to India with all the latest facilities attached to it.

But there are some issues of concern between Indo-Russia Defense Ties. There are issues of delaying delivery of armed equipments and technology transfer by Russia. MIG series of fighter planes have the issues of defective parts which questioned the geniuses of the deal. Even issues of price escalation has been hampering the relations a bit. India wanted t enter into an agreement with Russia that required timely delivery but Russia refused to do so. Now India is searching the options to enter into defense deals with USA and other countries. Russia has lost one biggest deal to USA in 2008 from India. This creates irritant in Indo-Russia defense ties.
